Text

Illustrated chrysanthemums are featured in this postcard. They are usually used to represent joy or happiness and even the sun. The Imperial seal in Japan actually features a drawing of the the chrysanthemum— clearly this is an incredibly culturally significant flower. There is even a 'Festival of Happiness' each year in Japan to celebrate these flowers! Perhaps they were included in this postcard to allude to the festival. (Sally O’Keeffe)
