This sign is for the second installment of the film adaptation of “Kimi no Na Wa” (“What is Your Name?”) directed by Ouba Hideo. Originally a weekly radio drama, the story centers around two young lovers who are kept apart by various circumstances such as status and family, and it’s a great example of the sure-chigai (crossing without meeting) romance genre which was very popular before the war. Interestingly, this film in particular was released in late 1953 after WWII but still enjoyed immense popularity, probably because it was still the early post-war period and audiences could still remember the heartbreak associated with war, according to an article by The Japan Times (https://www.japantimes.co.jp/community/2002/07/07/general/love-will-tear-them-apart/#.XMG7H-hKjZs). Thanks to this sign, we can deduce that this picture was taken in late 1953 or early 1954.
