This seems to show a blend between relatively new technology of the time, radio networks, against the backdrop of a classical Japanese neighborhood. There are many records detailing cultural changes in the social lives of the Japanese as well as their technological advancement, but this makes me wonder whether or not neighborhoods and their residents felt displaced by the Meiji period’s technological advancements. The modus operandi of the Japanese people was to revere the emperor, particularly during the Meiji restoration, but this begs the question of if there any people who opposed the rapid changes that changed the landscape of their communities.
